Methods: A cross‑sectional survey was conducted using convenience sampling among researchers from a tertiary hospital and its affiliated medical alliance units in Jinshan District, Shanghai. Results: Only 45.76% of participants were familiar with the operational guidelines and ethical principles for reviewing biomedical research involving human subjects. Although 83.47% considered RECs helpful, 65.68% knew that their hospital had an REC, but only 37.29% fully understood its functions. Meanwhile, 47.04% believed that REC review slows research progress, and 41.52% thought it acceptable to fabricate some data or alter study structures if no harm is caused to patients.
