UrbanÂ impervious surfaces increaseÂ stormwater runoff, Â affecting ecosystemsÂ Â and leading toÂ hydrogeological instability andÂ flooding risk. Sustainable urbanÂ design strategies can contributeÂ to counteract the negativeÂ impact of anthropic activitiesÂ both at city-scale and global scale. Green and BlueÂ Infrastructure (GBI) approaches,Â in particular, are an alternativeÂ to stormwater traditional management. In Europe,Â Sustainable Drainage System implementation copes withÂ impervious surfaces to achieveÂ water quality, amenity, andÂ biodiversity increase. BestÂ Management Practices,Â developed mainly in the USA,Â focus on specific measures forÂ sustainable stormwaterÂ treatment. Water Sensitive Urban Design, spread inÂ Australia and England, also aims to minimizeÂ the impact ofÂ developed areas preventingÂ flood risk, limiting waterÂ consumption and enhancingÂ environmental quality. In theÂ USA and Canada, Low ImpactÂ Development offers design strategies to manage runoff andÂ deliver structural practices toÂ mimic predevelopmentÂ processes of infiltration, filtrationÂ and detention.</abstract><keywords/></article-meta></front><body/><back><ref-list/></back></article>
