Supported by national policies, both basic and applied research in hydrogen and hydrogen energy have seen significant advancements in recent years. Reflecting these developments, the teaching of “hydrogen element and hydrogen energy” in college level inorganic chemistry has gradually expanded. In the context of the new era, there is an urgent need to reform and enrich this teaching content to cultivate students’ comprehensive abilities and align with the country’s evolving demand for talent in the energy sector. This paper analyzes current challenges in the teaching of hydrogen energy within college chemistry curricula and proposes targeted strategies to optimize instructional content. The goal is to offer practical insights and references for educators seeking to improve the effectiveness and relevance of hydrogen energy education.</abstract><keywords/></article-meta></front><body/><back><ref-list><ref id="B1" content-type="article"><label>1</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Hao S, 2025, National Energy Administration: Further improve the hydrogen energy industry ecosystem and optimize the industry development environment, China Metallurgical News, 2025-05-14 (005).</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B2" content-type="article"><label>2</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Cao C, Tang C, Zhao L, et al., 2025, Current situation and prospects of hydrogen energy utilization in multiple fields under the “dual carbon” goal, Modern Chemical Industry, 45(06): 15–20.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B3" content-type="article"><label>3</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Zhang W, 2025, Exploration on the teaching reform of chemistry and chemical engineering courses in colleges and universities, Chemical Engineering &amp;
