MLN is often associated with nephrotic syndrome. The histology of MLN is very similar to idiopathic (primary) membranous nephropathy (pMN). However, MLN usually has abundant mesa-glomerular deposits absent in primary membranous nephropathy. The clinical manifestations, management, and prognosis of MLN differ from other types of LN (type III, IV, or mixed type III/IV + V). Although immunosuppressive therapy is often necessary for MLN, the optimal treatment regimen is yet to be determined.
