These points of tension betweenÂ participatory and â€˜â€˜gender awareâ€™â€™Â approaches to development arise from â€“â€“ andÂ produce rather different ways of engagingÂ withÂ issuesÂ ofÂ genderedÂ power. This paper aim to list the dimensions of â€˜â€˜participationâ€™â€™ and â€˜â€˜genderâ€™â€™ in development, highlightingÂ paradoxesÂ ofÂ â€˜â€˜gender- awareâ€™â€™Â andÂ participatoryÂ developmentÂ interventions. FromÂ thatÂ part itÂ raises aÂ question, despite theÂ continuous efforts thatÂ haveÂ beenÂ exerted inÂ theÂ past and up to present to minimize the gap of gender inequality, coupled with the fact that the percentageÂ ofÂ femalesÂ toÂ malesÂ inÂ theÂ workplaceÂ isÂ increasingÂ rapidly;Â yetÂ theÂ samÂ problemsÂ exist,Â inÂ particularÂ theÂ lackÂ ofÂ employmentÂ opportunitiesÂ andÂ rights.Â Thus raising issues such as: is gender awareness necessary and sufficient for effective participation of women in gender and development practices? And what are the requirements for this effective participation?
