The English translation of diplomatic speech concerns the interests and honor of China, so the role of interpretation for diplomatic speech in this process is very important. Taking foreign minister’s speech at the plenary session of the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of China-CELAC Forum as the research object, this study analyzes the characteristics of the speech in three aspects: syntactic choice, choice for figure of speech and the use of metaphor from the perspective of interpretation text, and repeatedly compares it with the speeches of previous leaders, trying to summarize the overall style of diplomatic discourse, so as to provide reference translation strategies for interpreters’ real-time interpretation.
<keywords/></article-meta></front><body/><back><ref-list><ref id="B1" content-type="article"><label>1</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Li C, 2008, Cultural Default in Interpretation and Its Compensation Strategies, Continuing Education Research (05): 157-158.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B2" content-type="article"><label>2</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Zheng D, 2016, Go-out for Chinese Culture and the Translation of Culture-loaded Words, Shanghai Journal of Translators (02): 53-56.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B3" content-type="article"><label>3</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Hou J, 2015, Style of rhetoric in Xin Jinping's speeches, Sichuan Normal University.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B4" content-type="article"><label>4</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Ding J, 1984, Some Issues on Linguistic Stylistics, Journal of Hebei University(Philosophy and Social Science) (03): 45-57.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B5" content-type="article"><label>5</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Xu Z, 2013, Interpreting Strategies for Classical Chinese Poetry—with Premier Wen Jiabao's Speeches at Press Conferences as Examples, Fuzhou University.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B6" content-type="article"><label>6</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Song Y, 2019, Comparison of Language Style between American and Chinese Leaders, Teaching of Forestry Region (09): 68-69.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B7" content-type="article"><label>7</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Li K, Wang X, 2014, On Wayne Booth's View of Metaphor and Western Rhetoric, Journal of Central South University (Social Sciences) 20(05): 262-268.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B8" content-type="article"><label>8</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Li K, 2020, A Study of Metaphor in the Ecological Discourse of the Governance of China from the Perspective of Rhetorical Criticism, Journal of Hunan University of Science and Technology (Social Science Edition) 23(03): 105-111.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B9" content-type="article"><label>9</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Huang Y, Yao Y, 2021, Critical Metaphor Analysis in Japanese Political Speeches, Journal of Japanese Language Study and Research (03): 110-119.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B10" content-type="article"><label>10</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Fan W, Zou F, 2021, Diplomatic Discourse and the Construction of National Identity from the Perspective of Critical Metaphor Analysis: A Case Study of Chinese Leaders' Special Addresses at the Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Davos (2007-2018), Journal of Beijing International Studies University 43(03): 60-72+115.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B11" content-type="article"><label>11</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Chen J, 2014, Study on the Identity Construct of International Organization from the Perspective of Critical Metaphor Analysis: Taking UNESCO as an Example, Language Education 2(02): 38-42.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B12" content-type="article"><label>12</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Wu J, Gong C, Song Y, 2020, Investigating Political Discourse from the Perspective of CMA: A Case Study on Trump’s Speeches, Journal of Foreign Languages 43(03): 80-88.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref><ref id="B13" content-type="article"><label>13</label><element-citation publication-type="journal"><p>Jiang B, Hu Y, 2024, Image and Attitude: A Study of Conceptual Metaphors in Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China Journal of Tianjin Foreign Studies University 31(02): 97-106+113.</p><pub-id pub-id-type="doi"/></element-citation></ref></ref-list></back></article>
